Marvin the robot DESTROYS that one computer with FACTS and CLINICAL DEPRESSION (H2G2 D.A.R.E review part 2: Argue)
Why did I spend ten minutes making this? |
Hello, Hello, Hello, and welcome back to the Reader in Yellow, the only blog that promises insanity only to deliver low effort MS Paint memes! I am your host, Ay Ay Ron "The guy who's not going to make it through the year with his sanity intact" Hilomen, and today we're covering Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy yet again!
If you haven't already guessed by the title, this is the part where I argue in favor of a point, or else ESUHSD District Superintendent Chris D. Funk will break into my home and consume my supply of Colby Jack cheese. Without further ado, let's get right into the argument that Marvin the robot is more representative of the modern human reader than our "last straight-man alive" Arthur Dent.
To begin, let us view this specimen of a man: DentArthurDent, our protagonist, our eyes and ears throughout the story, and the man we assume represents us as the readers. He's a normal guy who goes to a pub, drinks tea, and is about to have his house demolished. However, there's many differences between Dent and the average reader: Dent was relatively happy with his life on Earth, somehow had enough cash to manage to live alone, and was capable of analyzing alien poetry. Now I don't know about you, but these seem to be the traits that the average reader lacks.
Martin Freeman as Arthur Dent. Notice how he's still got a bit of sanity left in those eyes. |
Now, take a glance at our second specimen: Marvin. Marvin is a robot, built to do menial tasks all day long despite having also been built with a "Brain the size of a planet". This alone alludes very much to the common reader, often held back by society, performing menial tasks all day long at a 9 to 5, despite KNOWING they could be doing so much more. Alongside this, Marvin never truly seems to be satisfied with his own work, a trait many people of this world share, alongside the writer of the novel, Douglas Adams, and the writer of this very blog post as well. This makes him far more relatable to the readers than Arthur, given Dent has demonstrated on numerous occasions his inhuman ability to socialize and become acquainted with others.
Warwick Davis/Alan Rickman as Marvin. Notice the slouched posture and dead eyes. Yeah this moron represents all of you readers here. |
To top all of this off, Marvin is shown to have been programmed with, as the book puts it, "Genuine People Personality", which means it makes all the more sense that his bitter mannerisms were more than a little representative of the average reader.
You may have noticed the tag. I figured that because an argument was simply a verbal fight, and because Marvin is just ten feet short of being a giant robot, it'd be fun to mark this as an "Almost Giant Robot fight". I'd say you might be seeing that tag a bunch in the future, so just be a bit prepared for that. Oh and for the record, this post in no way is meant to cause any controversy or drama, and in no way is demonstrative of my own views, should this post prove controversial, lest Superintendent Christopher D. Funk forcibly evict my kneecaps from their home in my legs. And if you find this post thirty years later, you better not use it to Doxx me.
